Winners of Chess Championship 2024 -25

St. Joseph’s Central School, Vijayanagar, in the city, emerged victorious at the CBSE South Zone-II Chess Championship 2024-25, held from September 13 to 16 at Harapanahalli, Davangere.

The prestigious event saw participation from over 275 teams in the open/mixed section and 95 teams in the girls’ section, with nearly 1,000 students representing CBSE schools from Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa.

The school’s under-17 mixed chess team, comprising Yashika R Joshi, Gambir N C, Vihaan Venugopal and Kaustubh Thejkumar, showcased outstanding skills and teamwork. They secured a perfect score of 14 points, defeating several schools in the South Zone-II, and clinched the championship title.

Their victory qualifies them for the CBSE National Chess Championship 2024-25, set to take place in Jalandhar, Punjab.

The school management, including Rev Fr Edward William Saldanha, Secretary of MDES, Rev Fr Naveen Kumar, Treasurer and Correspondent, Elizabeth S Thomas, Administrative Principal and Mary Margaret Nirmala, Academic Principal, congratulated the winners.

They expressed confidence that the team will continue to excel at the national level and bring further accolades to the school.
